John Da Grosa Smith
John Da Grosa Smith is legendary. A feared trial advocate. A strategic thinker. A problem solver. And a proven leader. Clients from around the world seek John’s counsel in dealing with the most complex problems.
John tirelessly hand built SMITH. One brick at a time. In SMITH, John realized his vision to create a boutique litigation law firm with a global presence that delivers inspired, creative and fearless representation to its clients.
It’s not everyday you stumble upon an attorney who single-handedly secured a unanimous reversal of the conviction of a former General Counsel after being hired as trial counsel in a high-profile, criminal prosecution case 8 days before jury selection.
That’s John–in a nutshell. Philadelphia born and raised, John Da Grosa Smith is a far-cry from your average high-profile attorney.
John embodies the quintessential qualities of a man beholden to his professional integrity, intellect and unyielding dedication to his craft and clientele. He’s a fighter. No-nonsense. Gritty. Hardcore.
With what can only be described as “baptism by fire,” John began his career in law at the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office as an assistant district attorney. Immediately facing talented, experienced, ruthless trial lawyers in the courtroom, he quickly developed the skills and substantive knowledge to deal with a high volume of cases involving various crimes such as attempted murder, assault, robbery, burglary, narcotics violations, driving under the influence, theft, and forgery.
Later emerging as an effective, experienced trial lawyer, he set out in pursuit of a career outside the practice of law. This led him to Accenture–also known as one of the world’s leading consulting companies. As a consultant, John used this opportunity to supplement his legal skills and knowledge with actual business experience. He learned “best practices” for developing and delivering business and technology solutions as well as for effectively managing client projects.
Some years later, John returned to law as an attorney at Rogers & Hardin in Atlanta. Working alongside some of the most highly-regarded lawyers in the City, he handled a variety of complex, sophisticated civil litigation matters.
After almost a decade of deliberately building diverse skills and legal knowledge, John brought it all together in the firm he created, SMITH. Guided by an unwavering penchant for justice, SMITH operates as an extension of John’s interdisciplinary skill set acquired through his experience as an assistant district attorney, “big firm” civil litigator and business consultant. John’s unique perspective lends itself to the Firm’s conscious departure from the status quo. In a field unwittingly stunted by patriarchal supremacy, widespread egotism and a pervasive aversion to the disruption of professional standards, his firm, SMITH, stands alone.
